Author Paige Snider made a special visit to Nancy Cox’s fifth-grade class at Connolly Elementary School in Glen Cove on April 8 to talk about acceptance. Emphasizing tolerance of all people, Snider read her book “My Special Friend” to the class. Snider, a college freshman, originally penned the book in fifth-grade in order to support awareness and acceptance of those with autism, including her two older brothers. The visit highlighted National Autism Awareness Month, teaching the students about the need to accept everyone regardless of any differences.

“I think it is important to start teaching children about autism at a younger age so that they will accept it more as they get older,” Snider said.
