GCHS & Robbie Wagner Team to Renovate Tennis Courts

In an ongoing effort to maintain all facilities and grounds in the Glen Cove School District, administrators recently announced that tennis courts at Glen Cove High School have been successfully resurfaced.

Director of Facilities Joseph Fiorino said that the school’s seven tennis courts had been in poor shape, with six-inch wide cracks in the pavement.  Mr. Fiorino estimated that the last time the courts were upgraded was 30 years ago.

Robbie Wagner’s Tournament Training Center of Glen Cove partnered with the district to repair the tennis courts. The project commenced in 2011 and was completed this June. It included the installation of concrete bases with asphalt tops, and sand paint was used for all the courts. The project comes at no cost to the district.

“They’ve had great success in Glen Cove with the tennis program, and they wanted to give back to the community,” Mr. Fiorino said of the Robbie Wagner center.

GCHS has experienced success with its tennis program as well. The boys varsity team was crowned conference champions in spring 2012, and the girls varsity team was honored as conference champions in fall 2012.

The courts are now open to residents of Glen Cove for use.
