Superintendent of Schools Maria L. Rianna conducted her first districtwide Superintendent’s Conference Day as Glen Cove’s educational leader. She welcomed the entire staff for convocation at Glen Cove High School on Aug. 29, prior to the Sept. 3 opening of school.

As part of an annual tradition in Glen Cove, Ms. Rianna, joined by the Board of Education, honored staffers who had dedicated more than 20 years of service to the children of Glen Cove. This year’s honorees included:

Susan Amass, Greg Famularo, Steven Kocienda, Alice McGrath, Jacqueline Morra, Maria Salamone, Caryn Stasco and Marguerite Venturino with at least 20 years working in Glen Cove; Rosemarie Bongiorno, Diane Conti, Tracy Laderer and Donna Staab with at least 25 years; Sheryl Palmer with 30 years; and Frank Bilello, Mary Ellen Cuomo, Lorraine Ieraci and Rosemarie Sekelsky with 35 years or more of service.

Following the opening ceremony, the Glen Cove Teachers Association addressed the faculty before teachers returned to their respective schools to prepare their classrooms and participate in various faculty and department-level meetings, as well as some team-building exercises. Many of the schools provided lunch for the staff, including Connolly School, where 26-year custodial worker Vinny Pullo was honored on his second-to-last day before his retirement.

School opens for students on Tuesday, Sept. 3. Please note the changes in school starting times, posted on this website.
