In conjunction with New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) Gribbin Elementary School hosted a "Halloween is Not Just About the Candy" Fall Festival on the school lawn. The NYIT men’s basketball and women's softball teams ran physical fitness oriented activities along with physical education teacher Mark Checola. Stations included a "Leaf Relay," a "Pumpkin Soccer Game," an obstacle course, a parachute game and a traditional potato sack race. The field was also decorated with haystacks, scarecrows, and all things fall and Halloween. Music teacher JoAnn Criblez led students in a Halloween/Fall sing-a-long in the school all-purpose room.
Additionally, the Gribbin PTA provided healthy snacks including fresh apples, multigrain pretzels and 100% juice-juice boxes. Eating healthy and staying fit served as the mantra for the day and absolutely no candy was served.
