Here's what students have been discovering.

Sap  Everyone has a go at the auger as an educator from the Long Island Science Museum demonstrates how to tap our school tree.  Afterwards, while learning about Maple Syrup, a taste of the finished product was never so sweet -- or so interesting.

Rings and Layers  Together they tell how a tree has grown from year to year.

Straws   Well, tubes -- for carrying water and sap between leaves and roots.  A red oak dowel and some bubble solution demonstrates that trees really are connected from top to bottom.
