Finley Artist Soars to State Competition

Congratulations to Finley Middle School student Joshua Filippone for advancing to the New York State level of the national PTA Reflections contest. The Nassau County judges selected Joshua’s artistic contribution to move forward in the category of Visual Arts.

Using mainly ink from a Sharpie marker, Joshua utilized shading techniques to create three separate panels, telling the story of a young boy who is in awe of rocket ships. The boy uses that inspiration to drive him to build a rocket ship of his own later in life, which ends up inspiring yet another child, thus continuing a cycle of innovation.

The National PTA's Reflections program encourages students in pre-K through grade 12 to explore and be involved in the arts. Thousands of students follow a theme and create original works of art in the categories of dance choreography, film production, music composition, literature, photography and visual arts. This year’s theme is “The world would be a better place if...”
