The Glen Cove PTA Council recently revealed its inaugural Diamond Club at its annual scholarship brunch fundraiser. In past years, the Council selected one community contributor to honor during the fundraiser held for members of the Glen Cove High School graduating class. This year, the various Glen Cove parent teacher associations had the opportunity to honor a special member of their school community who has been a positive influence on the lives of the children.

Each honoree was nominated by a school or parent volunteer, community or PTA member, faculty, staff member or administrator. This year’s first ever distinguished Diamond Club inductees were former Glen Cove PTSA president Suzanne Anderson, Finley Middle School orchestra teacher Brittany Frank Rifkind, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Technology Dr. Michael Israel, Director of Special Education Mary Murphy, Deasy School Principal Nomi Rosen and Connolly School Principal Rosemarie Sekelsky.

Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Glen Cove Community Scholarship fund for scholarships for the 2014 Glen Cove High School graduating seniors. The Glen Cove High School jazz band, under the direction of Nicholas Carbuto, entertained the 180 guests in attendance.

“Through the generosity of many groups, we were able to create the fabulous grand prizes and raffle baskets that many of the attendees took home for themselves or others who purchased raffle tickets in advance,” said PTA Council president Antoinette Bellomo. “We are always filled with gratitude as our community continues to come out to support this fine cause.”
