Getting to Know Russian Culture and Dance

Eighteen dancers ranging in age from 8-17 from the internationally acclaimed dance troupe Rossijanochka thrilled Deasy Elementary students and staff with an audience participation performance of traditional Russian folk dances held at the Wunsch Center.

Following the show, performers joined second graders in their classrooms to answer student questions regarding Russian culture and what it was like to grow up in St. Petersburg, Russia, the troupe’s home base. Informal conversations continued as the guests enjoyed lunch with second-grade student ambassadors – some Russian speaking. They also joined students on the playground during recess for soccer and play.  In the afternoon, another round of folk dancing together with students capped off this unforgettable day.
