More than 30 Glen Cove High School “Thunder Cats” raised awareness and hope by walking in this year’s Relay for Life, held at North Shore High School on June 7-8. The GCHS Student Senate-led Thunder Cats team raised more than $9,000 for the American Cancer Society.

Relay for Life is an organized, overnight community fundraising walk that brings teams of people together to camp out around a high school track, take turns walking around the track and raise funds for cancer research and awareness. Food, games and activities provide entertainment and build camaraderie during the event. Additionally, a special nighttime luminary lighting is held to allow participants to honor the memory of loved ones who have lost their battle with cancer, while also praying in support of those who continue the fight.

GCHS senior Samantha Di Paola captained the Thunder Cats. Student Senate adviser Ellen Lynch also walked as a member of the team. Several other members of the Glen Cove School District community were on hand to chaperone and lend their support. GCHS Key Club and the Glen Cove Youth Bureau also sponsored fundraising teams.

Thank you to all of the teams and volunteer supporters who participated in this wonderful event.

Members of the GCHS Select Choral also performed “The Star Spangled Banner.” To view their performance, go to the GCTV archive on the homepage, or Click Here
