Celebrating Black History Month

In celebration of Black History Month, schools throughout the Glen Cove School District studied the many great Black innovators, groundbreakers, and activists who have had a significant impact on society. Pictured here, Caryn Stasco reads with Amy Gallo’s second-grade students at Gribbin Elementary School about Wilma Rudolph, the track-and-field athlete who became the first American woman to win three Gold medals in a single Olympics. The children learned how Ms. Rudolph elevated women’s track-and-field in the United States and was regarded as a civil rights and women's rights pioneer. The class is seen here with Ms. Stasco, displaying a book about Ms. Rudolph.
