Landing Speller Advances to LI Finals


Landing & Connolly Spelling Champs Honored

Congratulations to Landing Elementary School fifth grader Joshua Filippone and Connolly Elementary School fifth grader Andy Delgado for winning their respective school’s Spelling Bee competition and advancing to the Long Island Semifinals. Andy and Joshua each competed against nine other fifth graders in their schools to advance to the semifinals, where they representing Glen Cove amid a field of more than 100 young orthographers in grades 4-8 from public, private and religious schools across Long Island. The latter rounds consisted of a very challenging written portion.

Joshua has advanced all the way to the Long Island Championship round, which will be held later this week at Plainview-Old Bethpage Middle School. If he wins, he will represent Long Island at the National Spelling Bee this May

Ten students from each school participated in the school-level bee.  The 10 students from Landing School were Joshua, Kaitlyn Grella, Logan Pascucci, Jack Kaffl, Sky Lewis, Irvin Mancia, Talia Sakhee, Julian Tasayco, Grace Tenke, and Frank Thompson. 

The 10 spelling bee participants from Connolly School were Andy, Alejandra Alvarez, Jason Bonilla, Isabel Blas, Nazareth Culley, Alisa Ferman, Larissa Garcia, Dominique Pawul, Gio Ronghi, and Morgan Vignali.
