Robotics Team Garners Excellence Award

Finley Middle School’s Men in Black robotics team received the Excellence Award at the Vex Robotics Competition held at Schreiber High School in Port Washington on Dec. 13.

The highest honor awarded in the tournament, the Excellence Award is given to a team that exemplifies excellence in having a well-rounded VEX Robotics program. This designation automatically qualifies Glen Cove's robotics team to compete at the New York State championship as well as the national championship, which will be held in Iowa in April 2015.

Upon arriving at the tournament, the team encountered programming glitches that required them to completely erase the programming software from their computer and download a new programming language. After more than two hours of learning to write code for their robot, the team was eventually able to take the field, exemplifying their teamwork and dedication.

The Men in Black will host their first Vex Robotics Competition at Finley Middle School on Saturday, Jan. 10 from 9:30 a.m.-430 p.m. Additionally, the club hopes to attend the national championship and welcomes any donations.
