Cynthia Van Ommeren’s second-graders enjoyed learning about printmaking and had the opportunity to create their own silk-screened T-shirts on Jan. 6.

The project was led by Professor Susan Czechowski of Western Illinois University, who visited the class and taught students about the steps of silk screening and the equipment involved. The children then used a squeegee and ink to print a chosen design on a T-shirt. They came away from the activity with not only a wonderful new T-shirt, but also the confidence of an artist.
