Connolly third-graders in Lucretia Simone’s class demonstrated their knowledge of simple machines by creating unique inventions, exhibited as part of their classroom’s Invention Museum Open House.

The students created their inventions during the winter recess using everyday household materials. According to Simone, the assignment provided a hands-on learning experience, which reinforced the science curriculum.

“The students are currently learning simple machines and, in order for them to create their invention, they had to know the mechanics of a simple machine and how to construct it,” Simone said.

The third-grade students demonstrated their inventions to fellow schoolmates, who were invited to view and ask questions during the open house.
