Dr. King Remembered at Landing

Landing Elementary students honored the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during a recent school assembly.

“We Hold the Pieces to World Peace” was the theme of this year’s event, which began with a presentation by fifth-grade teacher David Smith, who encouraged students to make a difference. The children then proceeded outside to the Peace Tree planted during last year’s assembly and hung paper globes that reflected their ideas on how to achieve world peace, while Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech played in the background.

Prior to the celebration, students created puzzle pieces with their ideas for peace, which were placed next to the indoor Peace Tree created by art teacher Jean Bennardo. Principal Dimitri Kryoneris told students each leaf on the indoor tree represented a Landing student and symbolized beauty, strength, wisdom and promise.
