Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "Letter from a Birmingham Jail" is the recent focus of study for students in Cheryl Chase’s ESL IV class at the high school.
As part of their class activities, students listened to a recording and read an adapted version of the letter. They also watched video footage of the march on Birmingham, Alabama. According to Chase, the classroom assignments are focused on deductive reasoning and reading comprehension.
They also encompass the themes of non-violence, equal rights and justice.

“It’s important that students are aware of American history,” Chase said. “It wasn’t that long ago that things were different, and there’s still a long way to go.”
