Ready, Set, Cook

Glen Cove High School seniors Geoffrey DeCoster and Kyle Muzante placed first in the Long Island Chapter of the American Culinary Federation’s Ready, Set, Cook competition.

As part of the contest, participants were charged with creating a meal within a specific timeframe under the direction of a coach. DeCoster and Muzante, culinary students at BOCES Joseph M. Barry Career and Technical Education Center in Westbury, prepared a pork loin with apple mushroom demi, sautéed potatoes, a yellow and green vegetable medley and a pan-fried spinach egg. The pair competed against cooking teams of various ages.

DeCoster and Muzante’s first-place win was announced at an awards gala on March 9. The boys received special chef’s jackets and partial scholarships to Monroe College in New Rochelle.
