At its June 1 meeting, the Board of Education appointed three new administrators who will join the district effective July 1, 2015.

The district welcomes Antonio Santana as its new high school principal, replacing Rosann Cirnigliaro. Mr. Santana joins Glen Cove with a wealth of educational experience, most recently serving as principal at Port Jefferson Middle School. In this position, Mr. Santana provided and participated in ongoing professional development in Common Core Learning Standards and served on the district’s professional development committee. He also established criteria for acceleration in science at the high school.

Ken Craft was appointed the new principal of Deasy Elementary School, replacing Nomi Rosen. Mr. Craft presently serves as assistant principal at Susan E. Wiley Elementary School in the Copiague school district, a position he has held since 2011. In that role, Mr. Craft monitored procedures and practices that promote a safe school environment and ensured that compliance with the Dignity for All Students Act legislation was implemented with fidelity according to district policies. He also worked with the District’s instructional staff to ensure Common Core mathematics curriculum was properly integrated into the daily instructional program.

The Board also appointed Betsy Lashin as the Assistant Director of Special Education. Ms. Lashin comes to  Glen Cove from the Island Trees School District, where she currently serves as a special education teacher. She has also worked as the SCOPE summer enrichment director, a role in which she helped to fully develop curriculum and staffing and maintain summer programs.

“We are extremely pleased to welcome Mr. Santana, Mr. Craft and Ms. Lashin to the Glen Cove family,” said Superintendent of Schools Maria Rianna. “Their strong educational background and commitment to children will be a positive asset to the district, and we look forward to the contributions they will make here in Glen Cove.”
