Adorned in first-day attire and equipped with new school supplies, district students arrived at school on Sept. 3 excited for the year to come.

Around the district, students were greeted by teachers and administrators, who happily helped the children find their classrooms and answered any questions they had. And it wasn’t just students beginning anew on the first day; three of the district’s schools also welcomed new administrators, who were on hand to introduce themselves to students and their families.

At Deasy School, Principal Ken Craft greeted students at the front door and wished them a fantastic first day. Craft was joined by Superintendent of Schools Maria Rianna, who helped guide the children to their classrooms. Meanwhile, at Landing School, new Principal Benjamin Roberts visited classrooms to give students an opportunity to get to know him better. Roberts was joined at the opening by Dr. Michael Israel, assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction and technology. According to Roberts, it was a terrific first day.

“It was exhilarating to see the students and their families begin their first day at Landing,” Roberts said. “The entire Landing staff is looking forward to a tremendous school year of learning.”

Glen Cove High School Principal Antonio Santana was equally excited to get to know his students and visited several classrooms to welcome the students back to school. The high school’s new assistant principal, Alexa Doeschner, and Assistant Principal Allen Hudson were also on hand to greet and assist students.
