Members of Glen Cove High School’s Select Chorale are preparing for the performance of a lifetime — the first-ever Children’s Choir Festival For Epiphany, alongside the Sistine Chapel Choir — during a mass led by Pope Francis at the Vatican.

The students, in grades 10-12, will embark on their seven-day trip on Jan. 1. During their visit, they will perform twice at the Vatican, once at the Church of San Lorenzo, and once in Assisi. The group began raising money for the trip last June and was able to raise nearly $40,000 thanks to the support of local businesses, local officials and the support of Glen Cove community members.

The Select Chorale is no stranger to showcasing their talents to world leaders. Under the guidance of Ed Norris, director of choral music at Glen Cove High School, the students performed for President Barack Obama two years ago.
