Six Glen Cove High School athletes attended the 13th annual Student Athletes as School Leaders: Leadership On and Off the Field conference, held at Hofstra University on Feb. 2.

The purpose of the conference was to celebrate, support and encourage positive student leadership throughout Nassau County school districts. The student leaders had an opportunity to meet with their counterparts from other high schools and share ideas about the meaning and significance of leadership.

The day included a keynote address by Greg Dale, professor of sport psychology and sport ethics at Duke University and director of the sport psychology and leadership programs for Duke Athletics. Mr. Dale’s address focused on the dialogue between student leaders, coaches, athletic administrators and principals, as well as communication skills training. Representatives from the Positive Coaching Alliance facilitated breakout sessions for the student leaders using prepared materials.
