Glen Cove City School District’s Board of Education recognized student vocalists and two local police officers, prior to hearing multiple presentations, at the Feb. 29 Board meeting.

The meeting began with members of Glen Cove High School’s select chorale giving an awe-inspiring performance for those in attendance. The students and director Ed Norris were honored for their recent trip to Rome, where they delivered four outstanding musical performances, including one at the Vatican. Superintendent of Schools Maria Rianna, who accompanied the students on the trip, described the singers as “amazing.”

“These young people not only performed better than any select chorale I’ve ever heard, but their actions, professionalism, demeanor and performance have made all of Glen Cove just beam with pride.”

Also honored at the meeting were Glen Cove Police Sergeants David Leon and Ryan Nardone. The pair was recognized for working with elementary students at Landing and Connolly schools as part of the city’s PRIDE program.

Academic information on the district’s iPad initiative and expanding program opportunities at Finley Middle School were also presented, as was a 2016-17 budget presentation. The next Board of Education meeting will be held on March 14 at 7:30 p.m. at Gribbin Elementary School.
