The Glen Cove High School ‘Big Red’ Band has been invited to march in the 2011 New York City Veteran’s Day Parade on Friday, November 11, 2011.  Under the direction of Nicholas Carbuto, his bands have marched in numerous New York City Columbus Day Parades, the Salute to Israel Parade and the Gator Bowl Parade and halftime show in Jacksonville, FL.

The Big Red Band will honor all those who have served our country. This year’s performance has a special connection for Mr. Carbuto. His father, Marine Corps Sgt. Al Carbuto served in the Pacific in WWII.  A professional musician/composer, Sgt. Carbuto’s war-time song “Get Your Gear On” was later adopted by the First Marine Division as its official marching song.

According to Mr. Carbuto, the students have been preparing intently since the start of the school year. Along the parade route (5th Avenue north, from 26th Street to 56th Street) the Big Red Band will perform a medley of patriotic music led by Student Conductors Alison Abrams and Tommy Cammisa.  Accompanying the 115-member band will be Glen Cove High School’s award-winning Kickline and Varsity Cheerleaders.

If you can’t make it into NYC to cheer the students, you can watch the parade on Fox-5, November 11 at 11:00 a.m.
