Glen Cove High School junior and Girl Scout Jessica Bellomo partnered with the Animal Lovers League to shed a light on the ongoing problem of animal abuse and neglect that takes place globally every single day.

After completing more than 245 hours toward her project, “Operation Pet Safety and Animal Cruelty Awareness,” Jessica has achieved Gold Award status, the highest honor acquired in Girl Scouting. She will be honored and receive her award at a ceremony in June.

The Gold Award requires the completion of 80-hours or more of an individual leadership take action project that makes a sustainable and measurable impact on an important issue or need in the community and that serves to educate and inspire others in the community. The intent of the Gold Award program is to inspire communities in Nassau County to promote acts of kindness and goodwill.  Earning the Gold Award is an incredible achievement that only 5 percent of all Girl Scouts nationwide obtain.
