Local Author Visits Deasy First-Graders

Darlene Gaffney, a retired literacy teacher, local author and grandmother of student Samantha Morales, recently visited Deasy School first-graders in Mary Maloney’s class.

Gaffney read her new published book, “Raffie Reads,” in which a giraffe named Raffie walks around the zoo learning about letters and sounds and how to stretch those sounds into words. After reading the book, the students sang songs and did an activity to practice stretching out sounds to make words. Gaffney brought books to autograph for the students so that they can share this wonderful story with their friends and family.
