Varsity Basketball Wins Conference Championship

For the first time in 22 years, the Glen Cove High School Big Red Boys Varsity Basketball team has won the Conference III championship. The team, which is seeded #4, will host Floral Park in a first-round playoff matchup this Friday, February 17 at 6 pm in the Glen Cove High School gymnasium. If they win, they will host a second-round matchup on Wednesday February 22 at 12 Noon against the winner of this week’s Jericho vs. Seaford game.

According to Coach Peter Falen, this year’s team is dedicated and hardworking, with six seniors and five underclassmen filling out the roster. Seniors Mauro Carignano, Dahkeem Williams, Johnny Fiorino, Chris Theodorou, Yadiyah Letellier, and Nick Basile have led by example, with help from returning starters Frankie Mickens, Mike Acerra, Tommy Ziegen and Brandon Deloatch. Additionally, star transfer Kewan Beebe, commonly referred to as "Cash" by his teammates, leads the team in scoring, averaging more than 18 points per game.  He is also ranked third in the County in three-point field goals.

The Varsity Big Red Boys Basketball squad finished the regular season with a record of 14-3 in Conference III, 10-2 in league play.
