Glen Cove High School students on the research team at the STEP NYIT Program attended the 19th annual STEP Statewide Student Conference in Albany from March 24-26.

Latifah Fakhry, Fernanda Falcon, Joshua Filippone, Melvin Lopez, Lucretia Smith and Nicole Vasquez attended a variety of workshops before presenting their posters at the competition. The workshops included financial wellness, bullying, the importance of goal setting, careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), and technology and coding. All the workshops were interactive and provided opportunities for the Glen Cove students to work with students from other schools in New York State to create vision boards and network. Additionally, they were able to attend a college fair.

Lopez was chosen as student ambassador and had the opportunity to attend a different set of leadership workshops, in addition to helping with the process of the conference set-up and the college fair. The students had an amazing time learning new things, meeting new people and presenting their research findings at the poster competition.
