The Board of Education recognized the efforts of Finley Middle School’s eighth-grade research students during their meeting on April 3 at Connolly School.

The students, under the direction of teacher Heather Methven, participated in National History Day, a yearlong academic program focused on historical research, interpretation and creative expression. They recently presented their individual research at a competition held at Hofstra University.

During the meeting, the students shared what they learned during their research, which encompassed a wide range of topics, including Jonas Salk, The National Parks Service, Roe vs. Wade, Ruby Bridges, Sally Ride and Adolph Hitler. They also had an opportunity to share their project presentations with those in attendance.

Members of the board and Superintendent Dr. Maria Rianna commended the students on their exemplary work.
