Glen Cove High School students Isabel Blas, Arlene Cajavilca, Latifa Fahkry, Fernanda Falcon, Kayleen Mesa and Fernando Portillo were honored by the Board of Education at the April 20 meeting for their recent success in the Spark! Challenge.

The challenge, a collaboration with Northwell Health Systems and local high schools, exposes students to diverse career paths and ignites their interest in health-related STEM professions. The Human Anatomy and Physiology Honors students took part in a shadow day at the Acute Rehabilitation Center at Glen Cove Hospital and created a presentation based on what they learned. The students were honored with a presentation award and $3,000 monetary award at the Spark! Challenge.

After watching a short video from the event, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Maria Rianna and Human Anatomy and Physiology Honors teacher Fran Krisch congratulated the students.

“They made us so proud,” Krisch said. “When they did their presentation they were so professional, so bright. Just our best. I couldn’t be prouder.”

The students were presented with certificates of recognition, as were Mrs. Krisch and Glen Cove High School Assistant Principal Alexa Doeschner, for assisting the students throughout the process.
