Kickline Delivers a Trophy After Strong Showing

Congratulations to the Glen Cove High School Kickline Dance team, who took home the second-place prize in the Pom Dance division at the Scholastic Kickline Competition held at Nassau Community College. This is the first trophy Glen Cove Kickline has won since 2007.

“For us, this is as great as winning a division title, as we competed against many dance teams from schools all over Long Island in both Nassau and Suffolk counties,” said Kickline Coach Cheryl Carmody, who pointed out that the Lady Big Red team squared off against elite squads, many of which boast rosters twice their size. In total, 14 teams competed in the Scholastic competition, including one from New York City. The Glen Cove girls finished runner-up to Smithtown West High School, considered one of the best teams on Long Island. In addition to the second place prize, Glen Cove also took fourth place in the Kick Routine.

Glen Cove Kickline participates in two competitions per year as well as various public performances. Among them was an appearance at the Orange Bowl three years ago, and more recently, a clinic with the renowned Radio City Music Hall Rockettes.

“As their coach I cannot express how proud and excited I am for them,” added Ms. Carmody. “The girls worked so hard this year and I am so pleased to bring back a trophy to honor Glen Cove!”
