Finley Middle School Junior Honor Society Making a Difference

The Finley Middle School Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is working hard to help others. They recently sent care packages to troops in Afghanistan, an idea pitched by advisor Linda Thomas Batson. NJHS member Michael Hatala mentioned that he had family in the military and helped his fellow members to indentify a group of soldiers to sponsor. The response was incredible, as the students assembled four large flat-rate boxes filled with snacks, phone cards, batteries, magazines, air fresheners, cotton swabs and other helpful items.

In addition, Finley NJHS member Patricia Abraham designed special thank you cards to send to the troops. As a result, the students learned the valuable life lesson that helping others results in mutual happiness.

The Finley NJHS is currently working on a used cell phone drive. They will collect functional phones for donation to women who have been victims of domestic violence. They also spent this past week reading to young children at Tutor Time. This May, the group will be organizing a car wash at the school to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Ms. Batson is pictured here with members of the Finley NJHS. Keep up the good work!
