Congratulations to Glen Cove High School Class of 2017’s valedictorian Julie Micko, salutatorian Geovani Antonio Flores and honorarian Laura Marie Roesch.
     
Julie’s academic prowess includes earning a 103.52 GPA and recognition by the College Board as an AP Scholar with Honor. She was named a Commended Student in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program and was recipient of the Bausch + Lomb Honorary Science Award. Julie has taken a rigorous course load while at Glen Cove High School, including many AP and honors courses. Her academic and athletic accomplishments led to her designation as a News 12 Scholar Athlete. Julie received All-County honors in air rifle for three consecutive years and was a member of the varsity volleyball team and the varsity track and field team. Her extracurricular activities include being a Student Senate, DECA club, mathletes and ski club member. She also performed as part of the wind ensemble, marching band, pep band and drumline and was named an All-County musician for mallet percussion. Julie has taken part in many community service activities, including participation in numerous walks, blood drives and community cleanup efforts to benefit non-profit organizations, in addition to working various part-time jobs. Julie will attend Stony Brook University in the fall.  

Geovani earned a 102.57 GPA and was recognized by the College Board as an AP Scholar with Distinction. He has taken a rigorous course load, taking advantage of many AP and honors classes at Glen Cove. Geovani was recognized for excellence in Living Environment, Spanish Native Language II Honors, Algebra 2/Trigonometry Honors and Physic Honors. Outside the classroom, he has taken part in many activities, including DECA club, pep band, marching band, the wind ensemble, jazz band and mathletes. He was inducted into the school’s National Honor Society chapter in 2015 and served as treasurer in 2016. Geovani volunteered as an altar server at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church for five years. He will attend Macaulay Honors College at The City College of New York.

Laura has a 102.3 GPA and was designated an AP Scholar with Honor by the College Board. She has taken advantage of many AP and honors classes at Glen Cove, in addition to being honored for excellence in Spanish III, Spanish IV Honors and AP World History and her outstanding achievements in physics. Laura is a member of the school’s National Honor Society chapter, serving as secretary in 2015-16 and president in 2016-17. Her extracurricular activities include DECA club, where she has served as secretary since 2013. She is also the treasurer for Model UN and co-vice president of mathletes, and participates in the Women’s Empowerment club and the school’ ski club. Laura’s volunteer efforts include organizing and leading activities for elementary and middle school children as part of the Glen Cove Library Teen Advisory Board, participation in the SMILES program at Gribbin School, serving as director and switchboard operator for Glen Cove TV Studio/GCTV and tutoring younger students. She will attend Stony Brook University in the fall.
