Top Seniors Honored

Glen Cove High School recently conducted its annual Student Awards for Excellence ceremony. Nearly 100 different awards and scholarships were presented to members of the senior class of 2012, several of which were presented to multiple recipients. Categories ranged from academic awards in the core subject areas to awards for community service and volunteerism to creativity and prowess in the arts. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Joseph A. Laria and Glen Cove High School Principal Dr. Joseph Hinton joined special presenters in congratulating the students.

Alison Abrams won the Valedictorian Award, Alexandra Gerin won the Salutatorian Award and Gorov Sodhi won the Honorarian Award as the top-ranking students in the Class of 2012, respectively. These three were also among the students who took home the most awards of the evening, along with Anish Joshi, Angie Martinez, Jakub Micko, Shania Wilcox, Kellie Williams and other multiple-award honorees.

An awards ceremony was also held to recognize some of the top underclassmen in which nearly 70 awards for academics, the arts and service were presented, several to multiple recipients. Community Service Leader Awards were presented to Blake Lee Woods (Grade 9), Alessandra Cappiello (Grade 10) and Bryana Vazquez (Grade 11).
