Welcome to the Living Museum

Fifth-grade classes at Landing Elementary School recently opened their doors to other students and parents for their presentation of a “Living Museum.” Following five weeks of researching various historical figures and current pop culture icons, each student selected a character to portray in the museum as a living exhibit. Each child dressed up as the individual of his/her choice and was fashioned with a “button.” Upon entering each classroom museum, visitors were asked to press each exhibit’s button, prompting the exhibits to turn from a statuesque state to living, breathing presenters, providing their own respective biographies, complete with props and facts of interest.

Exhibits ranged from civil rights icons Jackie Robinson and Harriet Tubman to popular novelists J.K. Rowling and Agatha Christie, to modern-day athletes Kobe Bryant, Tiger Woods and Reggie Bush and musical performers Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus and the late “King of Pop” Michael Jackson. There was even a sighting of the late daredevil Evil Knievel. One youngster decided to exhibit a personal hero of his own as Josh Gray dressed in military fatigues and portrayed his mother, Brandi, who is a Sergeant in the U.S. Army that has served in Afghanistan.
