Members of Glen Cove High School’s National and Math honor societies are preparing for the North American Computational Linguistics Olympiad on Jan. 24.

The olympiad is a national contest for high-school students in which they solve linguistic puzzles. When students solve these puzzles using logic skills, they learn about the diversity and consistency of language.

On Jan. 13, students, along with their club advisers Laura Makula and Liana Caesar-Quaye, visited LIU Post’s campus to practice solving linguistics puzzles. The group worked alongside a computational linguistics professor and a New York University graduate student.
