Student Artists Win 1st Place in Kidsday Contest

Connolly Elementary School fourth-grader Reese Comitino and Gribbin Elementary School second-grader Brian Mullen have captured first place in two separate Long Island Art Contests, both sponsored by Newsday’s Kidsday. Reese was honored for her cartoon of a pig while Brian was recognized for his portrait of Senator and former Vice Presidential candidate Paul Ryan. Both works will be featured in the Sunday, December 23 edition of Kidsday. Reese’s classroom teacher, Lorraine Berkin, Principal Rosemarie Sekelsky and art teacher LeeAnn Palazzo congratulated Reese (main photo). Brian was also congratulated by Ms. Palazzo, as well as by his teacher, Coleen Verity (alternate photo). Kidsday editors encouraged both students to send them more artwork to be considered for future publication.
