Deasy and Gribbin Elementary students in kindergarten through second grade recently went on a virtual field trip to the Oyster Bay Waterfront Center. The two school’s PTAs brought the WaterFront into student’s home where Waterfront educators taught them about horseshoe crabs, read a book and had live and demonstration horseshoe crabs to teach the students about their importance to humans, nature and science. Following, students were able to discuss what they learned and ask questions. For Glen Cove’s K-2 students, the visit to the Waterfront Center each year is a treasured, educational destination and allows them to explore the beaches, sail on the landmark sailboat the Christeen, interact with live sea animals and ask questions about the Long Island Sound. This year’s virtual trip was the first in a series called “Wonder Wednesdays.”
