The Glen Cove High School Music Department is proud to announce that eight students have been selected to participate as All-State musicians in the 78th Annual New York State School Music Association Winter Conference in Rochester, N.Y., on Dec. 5-8. Additionally, one student has been named to the All-National Choir, the first student at Glen Cove High School to achieve this honor.

Claudia Kolanovic has been selected to perform in the American Choral Directors Association All-National Choir. The ACDA Conference, which will be held in Baltimore on Feb. 5-8, brings together the most talented choral students in the country to perform before the nation’s most esteemed choral educators, professionals and adjudicators. Students are selected based on recordings submitted by their teachers. Claudia submitted her performance of “Gretchen am Sprinnrade” by Franz Schubert. This was also her NYSSMA solo for which she received a perfect score, however, performers selected for the national choir cannot participate in the NYSSBA Conference. Claudia was selected among hundreds of entrants from across the country, including just 36 from New York State.

Seven members of the Glen Cove High School Select Chorale have been chosen for the All-State Choir, which will perform in the NYSSMA Conference. They are: Nasreena Ali, Michael Banks, Ryan Carmody, Diana Delgrosso, Kristin Ingegno, Vivian Rysdyk and Sean Tan (alternate). Both Michael and Claudia were selected to perform at last year’s Winter Conference.

Samantha Smith has been named a member of the NYSSMA All-State Wind Ensemble, which will also perform in Rochester.

Students are selected to NYSSMA All-State ensembles – which represent some of the best student-musicians in the state – based on their scores at the NYSSMA Solo and Ensemble Festivals held the prior spring. Every Glen Cove High School student-musician selected achieved a perfect score at the highest difficulty level (Level 6, 100) on their audition. They also received stellar recommendations from their adjudicators and respective teachers. In addition to having the first-ever participant in the ACDA National Choir, the 2013 group is the largest contingent from Glen Cove High School named to NYSSMA All-State ensembles in a single year.

The district congratulates all of the students and their teachers, chorale director Edward Norris and band director Nick Carbuto.
