Message from Ms. Mullan

Fall 2019

Dear Connolly Families,

I hope that everyone had a restful and rejuvenating summer. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome each and every family to Margaret A. Connolly School for the 2019-2020 school year. We have many interesting and wonderful learning opportunities planned for our students this year.

I would like to congratulate Ms. Rodriguez on the addition of her baby girl. We wish her much joy in her new arrival.

Our school community will continue to work with Columbia Teachers College Writing Project this year as we enter our third year of implementation. Additionally, we will be working with Teachers College in implement Reading Workshop to coincide with Writing Workshop. As in the past, we look forward to strengthening our learning and providing research-based “Best Practices” for our students.

We are continuing full implementation of PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports) this year. Through this system, we have worked to create a set of rules and expectations. This was a collaborative effort with all staff. Our goal with using this system is to create a safe and optimal learning environment for our children. Staff and teachers will work with students to learn the different rules and expectations. Students will be acknowledged for their positive behavior throughout the day.

As with last year, our school is fortunate to continue working with a Glen Cove City Schools Security Guard who will be stationed at the main entrance and conduct safety walks throughout the day. In order to ensure a safe learning environment for our students, I would like to outline school safety protocols for all new families and those continuing with our school. All doors will be closed and locked at 8:10 a.m. after arrival time. If you are dropping students at carline, we ask that you start to drop students off no earlier than 7:55 a.m. and no later than 8:10 a.m. during arrival. The Comp Lane parking lot will be closed to cars until 2:35 p.m. for dismissal. If you are visiting the building, we ask that you notify the main office prior to your visit. All visitors must have a valid identification card to visit the building. All visitors will be registered by the security guard or other personnel prior to entering the building. If you are dropping off materials for your student, please leave it with the security guard at the front desk with the name and class.

Students will be dismissed at 11:25 a.m. on the first day of school, September 3, 2019. Please look carefully through all of the information enclosed in this packet. We ask that you pay special attention to the Daily Student Dismissal Form. For safety reasons, these plans must be kept consistent. If there is a change to your child’s dismissal procedure, please make this notification in writing to your child’s teacher prior to the start of the school day. We understand that emergencies do happen. If there is a change in your dismissal plans during the school day, please notify the main office prior to 2:00 p.m.

I look forward to a successful year of learning for our students. Please feel free to contact me regarding any questions or concerns you might have for the upcoming school year.

Warm Regards,

Julie Mullan
